About Mitchel Leavitt, MD
Dr. Leavitt’s clinical focus revolves around eliminating disabilities and restoring function, decreasing pain and improving the quality of life in his patients through a multidisciplinary approach with targeted procedures, physical therapy and lifestyle counseling.
After high school, Dr. Leavitt enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and as a Sergeant in the Force Reconnaissance community, he deployed from Camp Lejeune to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Liberia during the Second Liberian Civil War, and from Okinawa, Japan he deployed to East Timor for a humanitarian aid mission. He was a combat diver, high altitude parachutist and team member in two direct action and deep reconaissance platoons.
After getting out of the Marine Corps, he worked as a personal trainer while attending college at Armstrong University in Savannah, Ga. He graduated from Mercer University School of Medicine, after which he completed an Internal Medicine internship at Memorial University Medical Center. Next, he graduated from residency at Emory University Department of Rehabilitation Medicine in Atlanta, followed by a fellowship in Pain Medicine at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.
Most commonly utilized procedures includes platelet rich plasma injections (PRP) into joints, tendons and ligaments, epidural steroid injections, radiofrequency ablations of the spine and knees, facet blocks, SI joint injections, Intracept, minimally invasive lumbar decompression (MILD), spinal cord stimulators (SCS), dorsal root ganglion stimulators (DRG), peripheral nerve blocks and stimulators (PNS), stellate ganglion and lumbar sympathetic blocks and ganglion impar blocks. He does not recommend high dose opiates.
Born and raised in Savannah, he spends his time with his wife and two children, hunting and shooting. He is an avid fan of history, science fiction, track and field, college football and all things UGA.
